The fan-made Need for Speed: Underground 2 remake on Unreal Engine 5, titled TUFU, has received a fresh gameplay video. It features racing duels in the fourth stage of the story campaign and an exclusive upgrade for a car. The creators hint that a second demo is just around the corner, although the project still has no official release date.

The unofficial remake of Need for Speed: Underground 2 on Unreal Engine 5 — the TUFU project from the 2Unreal5Underground team — has made itself heard again. The authors have released a new gameplay video: it runs a little over seven minutes, and the community greeted it with enthusiasm after a long pause in news about the project.

What the video showed

The focus is on several racing duels in the fourth stage of the story campaign, as well as an exclusive upgrade for one of the cars. Viewers separately noted the updated graphics and the level of polish of the remake. One commentator, Spifflyy, put it bluntly: “You did what EA could never do.”

Second demo on the way

The German modder Kilian (also known as Apfelbaum), who heads the project, calls the fresh video a teaser ahead of the release of the second demo. He is currently busy fixing the last bugs, so the trial release will apparently appear very soon. According to previous statements, the demo will include the story campaign and all single-player modes. As before, it is promised to be downloadable via the project's Discord server.

Where the project stands

TUFU is being made on Unreal Engine 5, and release dates are still unannounced. The full version promises the entire career mode and the open world of Bayview. In parallel, modder UncleBurrito is developing his own reimagining of the same classic — now on the basis of Nvidia's RTX Remix, where update 0.5 is being prepared.

Original

The classic Need for Speed: Underground 2 was released in November 2004 on PC, PS2, Xbox, GameCube and Game Boy Advance; later it was ported to Nintendo DS and mobile phones. Sales exceeded 11 million copies — which is exactly why fans are so eagerly awaiting a worthy return of the game.
