Most Wanted (2005): Carbon's photo mode arrives in free roam
The classic Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005) has finally received a photo mode — the one players remember from Carbon. And it's called up exactly where it should be: right from the pause menu during free roam.
The very same Photo Mode, but in Most Wanted
A modder under the nickname Hydra has released the [NFS:MW] Native Photomode mod, which brings to Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005) the Photo Mode that everyone knows well from Need for Speed: Carbon. No external overlays or third-party utilities — everything is built into the game itself and works in free roam.
When you pause in freeroam mode, a new menu item appears, designed in the game's native interface style. It looks as if it has always been there.
Features
- Camera rotation — keyboard arrows.
- Zoom — the 9 and 0 keys to zoom in and out.
- Exit — ESC takes you back to the pause menu.
- On-screen hints — separate buttons showing the arrows, numbers and ESC, so you don't have to remember the key layout.
- Native look — the menu item and controls are styled after the original interface, rather than as a third-party insertion.
The author specifically noted that it was not possible to show the Showcase.fng window in free roam, so the key hints had to be drawn manually.
You can see how it looks in action in the preview video:
Version and installation
You should install only the Fixed build: in the very first version, Hydra made an error during the binary installation stage, which could prevent the mod from working correctly. The fixed archive is already available on the mod page.
The project was updated on October 6, 2026, and first appeared on NFSMods on October 5, 2026. You can download the mod from us: Native Photomode.
Open source
The source code of Native Photomode is publicly available under the GPL-3.0 license — you can study it or build your own version in the GitHub repository.
