Forza Horizon 6 on PS5: a disc is coming, but you can't avoid the download

Playground Games has confirmed that Forza Horizon 6 will also arrive on PS5 on Blu-ray — the release is set for January 26. The only catch is that the game's size is almost twice the capacity of a single disc, so part of the data will still have to be downloaded from the network.
What we know
Playground Games has officially confirmed that Forza Horizon 6 will be released on PlayStation 5 in a physical edition. The release date for the Sony console is January 26; in addition to the disc, the game will also be available digitally.
Disc vs. capacity
The main reason the disc won't be self-sufficient is the size of the project. On Xbox Series X|S, the game takes up almost 150 GB, and a comparable size is expected for the PS5 version. A standard Blu-ray disc for PS5 holds about 100 GB, so it won't be possible to fit everything on a single disc: a two-disc set would be needed, which would noticeably increase Microsoft's production costs.
Exactly how the developers will use the space is not yet specified. It is possible that the Blu-ray will serve as a launch key: after inserting the disc, the main files will need to be downloaded.
What this means for players
Even in this form, the boxed edition retains its advantages — you can put it on a shelf, resell it, or let friends play it. The question of preservation remains open: if the download servers are ever shut down, one disc may not be enough to launch it.
