The Crew Motorfest on Switch 2: a solid port hampered by an always-online requirement

COGconnected has published a review of The Crew Motorfest for Nintendo Switch 2 — the version was released on October 8, 2026. Technically, the port turned out to be a confident one, but the mandatory constant internet connection negates the console's main advantage — the ability to play anywhere.
Series debut on Nintendo consoles
The Crew Motorfest came out back in 2023, but it arrived on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 8, 2026. This is the series' first release on Nintendo platforms. The COGconnected reviewer notes: until now the system had enough strong kart racers, but no convincing project in the "pure racing" genre. The new release, in his opinion, is aiming for exactly that spot.
Resolution and frame rate
According to Ubisoft's official FAQ, the port runs at 1080p at 30 frames per second — the same in handheld mode and on TV; no separate performance or graphics profiles are stated. The review says that 30 fps holds steady, and rare drops do not affect the impression.
Cross-progression is mentioned separately: saves and progress transfer between platforms, but paid content purchased on other systems does not work on Switch 2. The physical edition comes in the Game-Key Card format — the cartridge contains not the game itself, but a key for download.
No offline mode
The review's main complaint is the constant internet connection. Motorfest cannot be launched without a network, so on the road you have to rely on a mobile hotspot, and any connection failure throws you out of the game: the reviewer calls this experience inconsistent and annoying. For a hybrid console this is especially frustrating, and the author regrets that Ubisoft did not provide an offline mode.
What's inside
The races are collected into themed "playlists" — from muddy off-road to high-speed highway runs. The surface type also matters: the car's behavior depends on it. In addition to the main events, small challenges like slalom gates are scattered across the map, and completing them awards new cars. The vehicle list is not limited to cars — there are planes and boats.
In feel, this is not a simulator on the level of Gran Turismo, but an intermediate option closer to Forza Horizon: you can press the gas more boldly, but you still have to hold the racing line. Jumps and nitro add spectacle, and the rewind system makes the game more accessible, although in places the cars feel slippery. In multiplayer — races with up to 28 participants and team "showdowns" with destruction.
Verdict
The reviewer calls Motorfest the best "traditional" racing game on Switch 2: there is a lot of content, playlists are easy to get pulled into, and the variety covers almost any preference. However, the mandatory online requirement cancels out part of the pleasure, especially away from home. For a console that relies on its hybrid nature, this is a regrettable omission — although fans of the genre will still get a quality project.
