Gran Turismo 7 on PC: KyTyPS5 hits 17–25 fps on high-end hardware

The KyTyPS5 emulator has made it to Gran Turismo 7: the racing game launches and reaches gameplay on a custom build. On a machine with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and RTX 4080, the counter stays around 17–25 fps, and serious visual defects are almost nowhere to be seen. This is not a fully playable game yet — it is a technical demonstration.

What exactly was launched

A recording of Gran Turismo 7 running inside KyTyPS5 was published by the YouTube channel Unreal Gaming PC. The launch was not on the regular version of the emulator, but on a separate build tagged «usa-ratt d5bb89e». The test configuration was almost flagship-level: an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor, 64 GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 graphics card.

The result is modest, but for PS5 emulation it is telling: the frame counter stays in the 17–25 per second range.

The image without surprises

The most curious thing here is not even the launch itself, but the image quality. Judging by the recording, no serious graphical artifacts are visible in the frame, and overall what is happening on screen is close to the console original. You wouldn't call such emulation perfect, but the difference doesn't jump out — especially if you remember the ~20 frames/s.

The emulator has advanced beyond GT7

The same piece also lists other successes of the project:

  • UFC 6 — the game starts and reaches gameplay, but an acceptable frame rate is out of the question;
  • Demon's Souls Remake — after refinements, it holds above 60 FPS consistently rather than in bursts;
  • GTA 5 — a separate build was also prepared for it, which noticeably improves performance.

Why this is not yet a way to play

It's worth keeping an important caveat in mind: this is an experiment, not a ready-made solution. Non-standard builds for specific games are required, the frame rate is far from comfortable, and PS5 emulation itself is still very young. So the current launch of Gran Turismo 7 is more a clear demonstration of progress than an invitation to play through the career on PC.
