Le Mans Ultimate sets record online player count during 24-hour network tests

Saturday's 24-hour Special Events races took Le Mans Ultimate to a new peak: according to SteamDB, 11,941 people were in the simulator at the same time — almost three thousand more than the previous maximum. The mass races at Circuit de la Sarthe are needed by Motorsport Games not only for the spectacle: it is a test of the network code after the rollback from RUDP to the old TCP.
New peak on Steam
On Saturday, October 24, at around 17:00 BST, SteamDB recorded 11,941 concurrent players in Le Mans Ultimate. The simulator's previous peak was exceeded by almost 3,000 people.
Why two marathons were needed
Motorsport Games held two 24-hour races at Circuit de la Sarthe. The goal was to test the networking component after the reliable RUDP protocol was introduced in the July V1.4 update. A series of high-profile network failures then forced the developers to return to the previous TCP, and now online races should show whether RUDP is ready for a full return.
Brakes and invitations
The first race, which started on Friday at 11:00 UTC, was marred by a technical issue: several drivers had their brakes fail for no apparent reason in the late stages of the distance. Since the wear level is not visible in the game itself while driving, the administrators disabled brake wear for the Saturday start.
A separate issue involved invitations — it affected 260 people and appears to have been resolved at the start of the race. Without an invitation, these participants would not have been able to connect to the race server.
First impressions
Stability reports are mostly encouraging: at the time of publication, the second marathon was still ongoing. Several thousand drivers registered for both Special Events — in the Hypercar, LMP2 and LMGT3 classes.
