«Forza Horizon 1: ReImagined»: patch 0.1.32 eliminates stutters and spares weak CPUs

The unofficial native port of the first Forza Horizon has received update 0.1.32: Dyotson eliminated short freezes after loading and significantly eased the load on the thread that bottlenecks the Steam Deck and quad-core processors. Disabling MSAA reduces CPU workload by about 30%, and the reworked graphics pipeline adds roughly another 6%, though this does not guarantee frame rate gains.

The Forza Horizon 1: ReImagined project is an unofficial attempt to run the first game in the series natively on PC. The build's author, Dyotson, has released version 0.1.32, and this time the main focus is on stability and CPU load.

Stutters after loading

Previously, when the game world first appeared and when entering an event, the image would freeze for a moment — about 200–300 ms. In the latest patch, these hitches have been eliminated.

Single-pass rendering

Graphics command processing has been rewritten. An MSAA toggle has appeared in the settings: if you turn it off, the 3D scene is drawn in one pass rather than several. The thread that is the bottleneck on Steam Deck and quad-core PCs gets roughly 30% less work, but object edges are smoothed less effectively — this is a deliberate trade-off. The graphics thread itself also became about 6% cheaper in terms of CPU time.

One caveat: 30% is a reduction in load on a single thread, not a promised FPS increase. How much more noticeable it will be on a specific machine depends on its configuration.

Map, integrated graphics and wheels

Another fix concerns returning from the map: previously the first frame was copied entirely back into the game and caused a hitch. Now this no longer happens.

On laptops with an integrated GPU, the game has learned to behave more carefully: when the reserved video memory is full, it switches to shared system memory instead of ending up with black textures and driver timeouts.

Wheel force feedback has also been fixed. On some devices, after about half a minute Force Feedback degenerated into ordinary spring resistance — the cause was an overflow of the effect duration value in Windows. In addition, FFB is now supported on Logitech G29, G27, G25 and DFGT under Linux and macOS.

Other fixes

  • Speed cameras: an exploit that worked after fast travel on the map has been closed.
  • Car roster: fixed the display of some DLC cars.
  • Graphics: resolved issues with reflections at 1080p and with car thumbnails when scaling the resolution.
  • Other: a number of other bugs have been fixed.

66 impossible results that appeared due to the previous bug have been removed from public leaderboards.
