Forza Motorsport 4 on PC: FM4 Static Recomp 0.3.0 brings DLSS and 240 FPS
Forza Motorsport 4 never made it to PC, but enthusiasts keep closing that gap. The latest build of FM4 Static Recomp version 0.3.0 has gained DLSS, FSR 2/3 and a 240 FPS cap — provided you own a copy of the game.
What is the project
An amateur developer under the nickname i2kiselev is working on FM4 Static Recomp. This is not an emulator in the usual sense: the machine code of the Xbox 360 version is analyzed in advance, translated into x86-64 instructions, and assembled into a native Windows application, while Vulkan handles rendering. The approach promises more predictable performance than classic emulators that translate “on the fly”.
New in build 0.3.0
- Upscaling: DLSS support has been added, along with FSR 2 and FSR 3.
- Resolution: rendering can be scaled to 1440p or 4K, and the internal resolution can be raised from the original 1280×720 up to 5120×2880.
- Frame rate: the limiter is adjustable within 60–240 FPS, while the speed of in-game events remains normal.
- Anti-aliasing and filtering: MSAA, FXAA, and anisotropic filtering up to 16x are available.
- Image detail: draw distance is adjustable, and mirrors have been reworked.
- Toggleable effects: motion blur, depth of field, and dirt on car bodies can be removed.
Performance measurements
The author tested a race on the Bernese Alps track against 11 opponents on a Ryzen 7 5700X3D and GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER setup. The average result was 233 FPS at 720p and 232 FPS at 1440p; the 1% low was 160 and 155 FPS respectively.
As a reference, the developer cites another port — hl360-forza4 0.3.9, which under the same conditions delivered 118 FPS at 720p and 1440p, 91 FPS at 4K, and 51 FPS at 5120×2880. In addition, according to his own words, the new build outperforms Xenia Canary in a similar test by roughly 2.3–2.6 times.
What already works
World Tour mode, dozens of races from Event List, Free Play, Hot Lap, Test Drive, Autovista, Photo Mode, replays, garage, tuning, and saves have been tested. Offline, according to the author, there are no known critical issues. Online components and Kinect controls are not yet supported.
Launch conditions
The project does not contain game files and does not distribute them: to run, you need a personal legal copy of the first disc of Forza Motorsport 4 version 1.0 in PAL or US regional variants.
Future plans
The developer's to-do list includes support for racing wheels, a Linux build, and compatibility with Project Forza Plus 4 and other editions of the game. He does not name any timelines.
