Beach Is Fine, a Gaze Isn’t: Playground Explains Livery Bans in Forza Horizon 6
On October 30, the Chinese Forza Horizon 6 account explained which anime designs get players banned: among the undesirable were a “smoldering gaze” and “seductive clothing,” while a swimsuit on a beach in an appropriate context usually passes. The studio assured that it does not use AI for moderation and punished only a few — but after a sharp reaction, the post with the explanations disappeared.
The post that didn't last long
On October 30, the Forza Horizon 6 community in China received official clarification regarding bans on creators of liveries featuring anime characters. By that point, complaints about removed works and blocked accounts had been coming in for more than a week, and the statement was supposed to draw the line between what was allowed and what was prohibited. Instead, it sparked a wave of outrage — and was soon deleted.
Where the line is drawn
Sexualized images and extremist symbols fall under the ban. The statement, as reported by PlayGround.ru, cited specific examples of unacceptable content: “a languid gaze,” “slightly parted lips,” and “seductive clothing.” A beach swimsuit in an appropriate context is usually not considered a violation — meaning the final assessment largely remains with the moderator.
On AI and the scale of sanctions
Separately, the studio responded to suspicions that works were being filtered by automation: according to it, artificial intelligence is not used in moderation, and the blocks affected only a small portion of players. These assurances, however, did not resolve the community's questions — the criteria looked too vague.
Background
The dispute over itasha-style liveries has been dragging on since September: at that time, players from Japan and other countries began reporting en masse removed works and temporary account restrictions, and Microsoft updated its code of conduct. In it, the itasha style remained permitted, but explicit and suggestive sexual scenes were banned.
