EA will continue laying off employees
This year things are going rather badly for Electronic Arts. EA is definitely losing out in sales to its main competitors — Activision Blizzard and Ubisoft. That makes sense: the company gets most of its revenue from well-known franchises, and they are gradually exhausting themselves. For example, the latest Need for Speed installment has effectively become a failure for the series, and now the possibility of continuing NFS is very much in question. As for new projects that carried high hopes, such as Dead Space or Mirror's Edge, revenue from them turned out to be far below expectations. In an attempt to salvage its financial position, Electronic Arts began laying off employees. Around a thousand people were laid off during December — and, according to rumors, that's not all. An anonymous source at the company said that this year EA plans to put another four hundred workers out of work. Alas, such measures aren't taken because things are going well.
