Company Announces Undercover Boss Car Pack

When we spoke with Undercover producer Scott Nielsen a few weeks ago, he mentioned changes in the development methods for the Need for Speed series. The days when we could release a game and immediately start working on a new one are gone. Now we have set up dedicated teams that handle support and development of new modes and new features for the latest versions of the games.
If you need proof, look at the impressive Challenge Mode that will go on sale soon. In the Boss Car Bundle, in addition to the impressive new mode, there is an opportunity to purchase some of the best car models. To get a closer look at the new cars, we asked Undercover DLC producer Marc DeVellis to tell us about the new pack.

What prompted the idea of introducing Boss cars into the DLC lineup?
What player wouldn't want to drive a Boss car? We know that feeling, and as players, we wanted to share that experience with our fans. The Boss Car Bundle features eight cars with a wide range of performance and speeds… I think they will immediately join the top of the leaderboards.

Tell us more about the cars in the Boss Bundle.
The pack will give players a whole range of cars in every class. The new cars are a combination of Classes 1–4, which will give players a chance to lead in any class. This includes four Class 1 cars, two Class 2 cars, and one each Class 3 and Class 4 car. That means online players can top any leaderboard.
Carmen Shelby GT500 — Class 1
Chase M6 — Class 2
Chau Wu CLS 63 AMG — Class 2
G-Mac Gallardo LP560-4 — Class 1
Hector 370Z (Z34) — Class 3
Nickel Viper SRT10 — Class 1
Rose 911 GT2 — Class 1
Zack Scirocco — Class 4
(All reward cars are Class 1 and only slightly inferior to Boss cars.)

How are the new cars different from those already in the game? Have these cars been upgraded, or are they the same cars that were in the game?
These cars have been tuned to the maximum level of their class. They should compete with the best of the best. We monitored which cars were used online and tuned the performance of each Boss car to the limit, making them competitive. This will allow players to enjoy the experience of driving new and fast cars.

Can the cars be upgraded?
No, upgrading the cars is not possible, because the development team has already done all the work and spent a huge amount of money on upgrades. It doesn't make sense to give players the option of visual customization, since these cars are unique and need to be kept in their original condition. All the cars are custom-built and have their own distinctive features that will stand out online, and we would like to keep them that way.

In which modes can the cars be used?
Players will be able to use Boss cars and reward cars in online or local mode. If you purchase the pack, the cars have a huge chance of competing for the top spot on the leaderboard.

When I go online, I see that many people are playing with the CCX. Are the new cars able to keep up with them?
Now you can! :) We monitored and tuned the high-end in Class 1, which should allow these cars to compete with the CCX with dignity. We look forward to the moment when the new Boss cars shake up the leaderboards. Their speed is slightly higher than that of the reward cars, and they will have an advantage. Most importantly, the custom-built cars have their own distinctive features, and this clearly sets them apart online. Players will be able to win in style, and you will know that a magnificent racing car has overtaken you.

Did you upgrade only Class 1 cars, or will we see a wide range of cars in the game?
We distributed the cars across classes to let players enjoy maximum coverage. We strengthened the top cars in the game in each class and tuned the Boss versions so they could match the leaders.

What is your favorite car in the DLC? Maybe you can share some driving tips? What should we expect from the performance boosts?
My favorite car is the Rose 911 GT2. It looks fast and is actually one of the fastest cars in the game. When the Challenge Series is fully ready, I will be able to download the pack from home just to play with this car. It is incredibly fast and extremely easy to handle. As for tips for players, I would advise using NOS in tricky places, staying away from walls to minimize speed loss, and, if desired, improving handling in difficult corners: just sharply release the brake while already in the corner to give the front wheels more grip. The physics engine is very sensitive to load: briefly taking your finger off the brake helps turn the car and improves handling, which will let you get through the corner as best as possible.
