Details on visual tuning in NFS:Shift

After reviewing mechanical tuning, we are ready to dig into the next menu in Need for Speed SHIFT - "Visuals". It will let you make your car unique. So, the menu is divided into three subcategories: paint, wheels and vinyls.
Paint

The first subcategory is "Paint", which (unexpectedly!) lets you change the body color of your car. The screen features a palette; with its help you can choose a color from the full spectrum and paint not only the whole car, but also its individual parts, including: body only (roof, doors and fenders), hood, front bumper, rear bumper, trunk and windows.

You can also choose a paint "type" from the following: gloss, metallic, candy, pearl, chrome, matte and mirror. Each paint type is unlocked as you progress in your career.
Wheels

The next subcategory, "Wheels", gives you the opportunity to replace the standard wheel rims with something more attractive. As with everything in the "Visuals" menu, changing wheels is free, and each set of wheels unlocks as soon as you reach a certain level in your driver career.
If you can't decide what exactly to install, you have the option to put different wheels on the front and rear axles of the car. You are also given a choice of diameter for the wheels you install.
Vinyls

The last category is "Vinyls". Every car in the game has four unique paint schemes. In addition to them, you can create your own scheme using vinyls and decals. Need for Speed SHIFT offers more than a hundred vinyls across 26 different sections, including "animals", "fire", "numbers", "flags" and even "pirates" and "ninja". They are presented in a layout that makes them easier to view and select.
Most vinyls are locked at the start of the game, but as already mentioned, as you progress in your career, the variety of your design projects will also grow.

You can use multiple vinyls on individual parts of your car's body, including the windows, with the ability to edit them. Each vinyl can be moved, scaled, rotated, stretched, mirrored and painted individually.

Gamerzines.com managed to use 50 vinyls on the left side of their car, and despite all their efforts, they still could not reach the layer limit, or, in fact, whether there is one at all.
The vinyl editor seems to be an incredibly versatile tool, and with the release of Need for Speed SHIFT its capabilities should satisfy everyone interested in styling. We can't wait to see your work!
That's all regarding "Visuals". Later this week we'll look at the "Driver Profile" system and awards, plus a few surprises.
