Need For Speed Top Speed

Greetings, Need For Speed lovers! This article is dedicated to Need For Speed Top Speed, a game that is not exactly new and is particularly unknown! Curiosity about the Porsche Cayenne Turbo car led me to this game. I have probably known about this game for a year already, but I did not have enough time to play it. This game is online, similar to Motor City Online, but unlike it, it is much smaller. This game cannot be downloaded or bought in a store; this game is entirely and completely hosted on the Internet. With the release of the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo model, Porsche commissioned Electronic Arts to create a new game in which one could drive the new model. Today I had time, and therefore the opportunity to play it; I got the link to Porsche, sat down at a P3 2500 connected to a dedicated line and started loading the page. Since I was already registered in Pogo Games, I entered my login and password. A new page loaded.

We click Play Now. Another window opens, this time the game window itself; at this time, the download of the program that enables the game begins. After installing the software, the computer starts loading the game itself. The download lasts from 1 to 2 minutes! even though I have a dedicated line! After that, the machine asks you to choose the sound. There are only 3 options available: play with high-quality sound, play without music, and play with no sounds at all, and next to each is the loading time — 9 min, 8 min and 7 min respectively. Since we have large resources in our hands, of course we choose to play with high-quality sound and again pay for it with 1 or 2 minutes. All right, let's move on; the game menu opens. It must be said that the game is made on the basis of the Need For Speed Porsche Unleashed or Need For Speed Porsche 2000 engine, so the menu strongly resembles it, except that the color has changed. We choose Race. A car setup menu opens for us, and it is much more cut down than in Need For Speed Porsche Unleashed, to ensure minimal loading time. What immediately catches the eye is how the cars are made: they have more chrome, and the headlights are simply blinding!

To my regret, you cannot immediately drive the new Porsche car; for that you have to complete the game. At first, only one car is available, the Porsche 911 Turbo (996), and one track — Harborfront. We choose, change colors to taste and press Race. A loading window appears, also similar to the loading window in Need For Speed Porsche Unleashed. It loads less now, and meanwhile you can read how much time you need to drive to score the maximum number of points.

At the end of loading, it again offers to press Race; before that, it is better to press the Fullscreen button so as not to play in a window, and almost immediately the track appears with the car. A rather pleasant sound announces the start of the race; by the way, it must be said that the entire game is accompanied by music again from Need For Speed Porsche Unleashed, and there are only 4 soundtracks in the game. That's it, the race has begun, and what you immediately feel is that the car has started behaving strangely, unlike in NFS5; Electronic Arts has clearly changed the handling, but in principle you get used to it later and it stops manifesting itself so clearly. A 3D pointer helps with handling, showing roughly where to keep the course. As the race goes on, you recognize the native track, and all that remains is to drive it from memory at maximum speed and with minimal damage.

It must be said that Electronic Arts worked on the lights, and when you drive through a tunnel, the unusual lights immediately give themselves away; the sun also looks unusual.

At first you get used to the innovations and try to keep the car steady; personally, I arrived 20 sec earlier and was very pleased that I got a sea of pleasure and a rather decent portion of adrenaline! The subsequent tracks were completed quite easily. There are only 3 tracks and 3 cars in the game. I completed all the tracks with ease (except the first one, since it was a bit difficult to get used to at first) and unlocked the long-awaited Porsche Cayenne Turbo.

It must be said that this SUV is not inferior in speed to the 996, and in handling it even wins! It is just a pity that the quality of the SUV is not top-notch (if only I had it in ZModeler, I would bring it up to standard!), but overall I liked it. If during the game you press Esc, a menu will appear offering to continue the race, restart the race, or exit the race altogether.

The controls in the cars were also cut down by Electronic Arts; for example, in the game you cannot look at the front of the car, you cannot turn on turn signals, the gearbox is automatic only. There are only two cameras in the game — a bumper view and a rear view; the screen also cannot be adjusted, there is no damage indicator, there is no map, there is no oncoming traffic, you cannot drive with opponents (except for other online game participants), the maximum resolution is 640x480. The game features 3 cars, as I already said: the Porsche 911 Turbo, Porsche 959 and, of course, Porsche Cayenne Turbo.

As for tracks, you are offered Harborfront, Industrial Zone and ... (it's a pity my favorite Alps are not there).

Damage has improved a little; the headlights now break and fall off more effectively! and the glass, when broken, did not become opaque as in NFS5; instead, as in GTA, a texture with broken glass is applied to the glass, so the glass remains transparent. At the end of the race itself, the game gives results and the number of points won and offers to continue the game.

Overall, the game is heavily cut down and frustrates you at every turn, but in my opinion it is worth playing once; in the end you won't regret it!
